“How’s it going in here?” I ask, slipping inside of Colby’s dressing room.
He turns from the mirror, hands on his tie and shoots me a frustrated look. “Fine, I just can’t get this stupid tie to work.”
“If you wore these things more often they wouldn’t give you so much trouble.”
“Yeah well, I wouldn’t be wearing this right now if I didn’t have to.”
Trust Colby to complain about wearing a tie on his wedding day. I brush away his hands and fix the tie.
“There,” I say, backing up. “You look like a million bucks Granger.”
He smiles that shy, modest smile I used to be so addicted to, and turns back to the mirror, hands on his shirt.
“I can’t believe you’re getting married today.”
He snorts. “After all these months of preparations, I’m surprised you’re not dragging me down the aisle just so your best man duties can be over.”
“There’s still the reception speech.”
“Ahh right,” he says hands moving to his tie again. “The speech where you tell all my secrets and embarrass me in front of my new bride.”
“Oh you’ve already had plenty of time to do that on your own,” I smirk at him passing him his jacket. “And don’t worry, I won’t tell all of your secrets, some of those stay between us.”
He catches my eye in the mirror and smiles, but there’s an edge to it.
One word, and suddenly I‘m drowning in crushing nostalgia.
“You don’t speak Spanish anymore.”
“It wasn’t wanted anymore,” he says, turning his eyes back to his suit.
Someone yells “2 minutes!”
“Let’s go and get you married, huh?”
He turns around with a warm smile and nods, “No me arrepiento*
We share a smile and I open the door.
